Guest Worship Artist
This Sunday morning guest artist Trevor Davis will be leading music at Genesis. We are a stop on his summer tour of churches and venues throughout Arizona, Colorado and California. Trevor will be leading us in worship with a mixture of familiar praise songs and original material.
Back to School Backpacks
Great job, Genesis, purchasing and filling backpacks for kids who otherwise would not have the supplies they need for the first day of school! Now the deliveries begin. Our Genesis kids will be delivering the backpacks they filled to the principal of Desert Trails so she can give them to the Desert Trails students who need them. The backpacks that the adults filled are being delivered this Saturday, July 31st. If you would like to help deliver them to the children of Phoenix Children’s Project (www.phoenixchildren.org), please contact Dayle Jacobs at tdnjacobs@cox.net.
Homeless Outreach
We would so enjoy some more people who want to share in the joy of ministering to our family downtown. We will meet on Saturday, August 7th at 9:00am at our home, 2110 E. Parkside Lane in Phoenix, which is a stone’s throw from Boulder Creek Elementary School. From there we will caravan downtown to Jackson Street and 11th Avenue to hand out snacks and share conversation with our homeless friends.
Another way to help our homeless friends is to purchase any of the following items (most can be found at Wal-Mart) and place them in the bin provided in the hallway each Sunday.
The Top 10 Ways to Assist the Homeless for Under $5.00
- A box of 100 Otter Pops for $3.50
- A box of 16 Rice Krispie Treats for $3.00
- A 6 pack of white crew socks in men’s sizes for $4.50
- A pack of small Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Snack Cakes for $1.40
- A big pack of little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies for $2.50
- A 12 pack of Austin Cheese Crackers for $2.00
- A 12 pack of Peanut Butter Crackers for $2.00
- A white t-shirt found at Walgreens or Michael’s for $2.50
- A pack of “store brand” soda from any grocery store in many flavors for $2.50
- A flat of 35 Costco bottled waters for under $5.00

Children and Families
PARENTS of Genesis KIDS – PLEASE NOTE - DATE CHANGE: We will be going to the SeaLife AZ Aquarium on Tuesday, August 3rd. We have a wonderful group rate of $6 per child. We will meet and carpool from Desert Trails Elementary at 11:30am so the kids can give the backpacks to Mrs. Lee, the Desert Trails principal, and then be at the aquarium from 12:30-2:30pm. Please feed your children lunch prior to going to the aquarium as they don’t allow food inside. Also, thank you for supporting the Genesis kids’ Backpack Service Project. It will be wonderful to watch the kids give them to Mrs. Lee next week. If you have supplies but forgot to bring them, bring them on Sunday and we’ll tuck them in.
Please mark your calendars...by popular vote, the Fall Kick-Off Parents Meeting will be August 22nd after service at Desert Trails. Please make every effort to attend – I promise you will have some fun and get a lot of information! The promised questionnaire is coming later today.
HEY Genesis KIDS - Mark your calendars too! The next DARE for 5th and 6th grade will be Thursday, August 5th, at Mrs. Carrie’s house at 6:30pm. How are you doing on your Summer Challenge? Get a jumpstart on our August memory verse – it’s Romans 14:19! Can you guess what our monthly virtue is?
I SAW THE LORD THIS WEEK...we talked about service all month and ended the month talking about serving the Lord when only He knows what we’ve done. Watching the kids silently place the backpacks at the foot of the cross was a testimony of that scripture in action – see Matthew 6:1-4.

Men's
Here are some ways to get involved with other Genesis men and grow in your faith.
Monday Evening Men's Gathering
We meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 7:00 to 8:00pm, but as I like to say "come early and stay late for some great conversation." Friday Morning Men’s Gathering

Men's Prayer
Gary Cloud holds a 10-minute prayer time each Sunday before worship. If you need prayer, want to pray with other men or have a praise to share, please attend this special time. Women's Tea/Fall Kickoff
Saturday morning August 28th, 2010 is the date for our annual Women's Tea/Fall Kickoff for Genesis WINGS Women's Ministry. It will be held at the Keller home with food, fellowship and fun, along with sharing about our upcoming October retreat and sign-up sheet, announcing our new fall PIC (Partners in Christ) classes, Woman to Woman Mentoring program and Secret Sister in Christ ministries. So we can plan accordingly, please RSVP to Suzanne or Erin.

A Sign-up sheet is now available at the Women's Ministry table each Sunday to reserve your spot. This is the date for our winter women's retreat at Young Life's Lost Canyon resort style retreat facility in Williams, Arizona. "A Heart of Faith" is this year's theme with guest speaker Susanne Scheppmann and special worship by Hosanna. The cost is $140.00 for the weekend including all meals and activities. We also have scholarships available. Join us for a time of fellowship, fun, reflection, worship and a great opportunity to get to know other ladies and build new relationships.
